Detail Design Study

MTO has retained AECOM Canada Ltd. (AECOM) to carry out an Environmental and Detail Design Study for the west section of the Bradford Bypass. The west section extends from Highway 400 to County Road 4, and is located within the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, in the County of Simcoe.

The West Section

The Project includes the west portion of the new Bradford Bypass corridor from Highway 400 to west of Artesian Industrial Parkway. The west section of the Bradford Bypass Corridor will include a four-lane rural divided freeway, two interchanges (10th Sideroad and County Road 4), Highway 400/Line 9 Bridge Replacement, and a freeway-to-freeway interchange (Highway 400/Bradford Bypass).

Environmental field studies are currently ongoing for the Bradford Bypass West, and updates regarding the Project will be posted as they become available.

The contracts for the Detail Design of the central and east sections of the Bradford Bypass Project are expected to be awarded by Fall 2025. Stakeholders will be notified of the commencement of future Bradford Bypass works. Refer to the key map to view the West, Central and East sections of the Project.

Spring 2025 Update - Implementation

In Fall 2024 design work included development of an initial vegetation removals implementation contract. This work was carried out in late Fall 2024 with environmental protection measures, including erosion and sediment control measures used to protect the environment.

The next phase of implementation will include the construction of a 10th Sideroad (County Road 54) temporary detour on the west side of 10th Sideroad. Environmental protection measures, temporary lighting, and installation of protection measures for the existing Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury watermain will also take place. The purpose of constructing this detour is to avoid impacts to local traffic using 10th Sideroad during construction of the new 10th Sideroad bridge to be built as part of the Bradford Bypass West Project.

Detail design of the Bradford Bypass West Project is ongoing and will include a comprehensive Landscape Design for the West section of the Project. The Landscape Design will include mitigationĀ and restoration measures such as noise walls (where applicable and feasible), and areas where reforestation, edge management, compensation plantings and snow drift measures are anticipated to be implemented.

Construction of the remaining components of the Project anticipate to begin in 2026. Updates on design progress and future phases of work, including when landscape restoration and mitigation measures will be implemented, will be provided on the Project Website as they become available.
